Forest in Indonesia is an asset both for national and international society where there is a diverse interest from various parties for the benefit of forest resources. Various institution had taken all necessary measures according to the UN Millennium development goals seven that aiming for an environmental sustainability which including reducing deforestation, halve biodiversity loss and green-house gas emissions.
The struggle for conserving forest as part of promoting environmental sustainability is a long term endeavor and a responsibility that is passed from one generation to the next. If the youth today are to be prepared for this undertaking, they require education and capacity building in the near future. Youth will inherit the consequences linked to action or inaction regarding the current and historical mismanagement of forest resources. Youth can play a crucial role in implementing designed policies to ensure the integrity of the world’s forest ecosystem and to spread out the idea of the process and the outcomes of the forum among their constituencies.
With the grand theme Forest Conservation: Youth's Roles in Abbreviating the Long Process, this symposium will be addressing on youth perspective toward forest conservation. Young people have shown great promise and aptitude in addressing environmental concern through leadership of environmental enterprises including in the area of sustainable forestry. This symposium is an approach towards achieving MDG’s for sustainable environment. In order to achieve those goals, the youth would require support from wide range of institution, thus we’re inviting all stakeholders to take part in this endeavor for a better world. Above all we dream of living—not existing.
